What is PADI eLearning?
PADI eLearning is a form of study where the theory part of your scuba lesson is completed online. With eLearning, the theory is learned at your own pace. You take the test at the end of each section when you deem yourself ready.
You then go on to complete all of the practical parts of a course with your dive instructor.
Getting the eLearning jump-start means you’ll spend less time in the classroom and more time in the water while on vacation.
Now you can get the PADI® Introduction to Open Water Diver eLearning for free! This module allows you to get a feel for what it would be like to interact with the PADI Open Water Diver course prior to purchase. It includes sections on breathing underwater and underwater hand signals.

Is PADI eLearning Right For Me?
The answer to that question really comes down to how you learn best as an individual. With the Open Water Certification Course, students who are comfortable with math and science generally find eLearning to be the fastest and most convenient way to get through the theory.
Then again, if you find you learn better when interacting directly with a “live person,” then the full course-classroom approach might work best.
It is all a matter of personal preference:
- How do you prefer to learn? Self-study or being taught.
- Prioritizing time. Does your pre-vacation schedule allow you any time to study or do you need to wait for vacation to carve out some free time?
